Weekend Pajama Write-Ins

Busy academics and academic administrators struggle to find time to write. We have the solution for you. Join us for our Weekend Pajama Write-Ins. Throw on your favorite pajamas. Arrive at Easton’s Nook by dinner time on Friday, stay through brunch on Sunday. You write, we’ll take care of the rest.

Yabba Collectives

“Yabbas” are clay pots traditionally used in Jamaica for slow cooking. Cooking in the yabba was an occasion for deep, engaged conversation, intimacy, and belly laughs. The result was a sense of connection and a rich, fortifying stew that fed the collective.

Easton’s Nook invites you to create a Yabba Collective. Gather here at the Nook to engage around themes related to your work, explore collaborations, network, share strategies for leadership etc.

You pick the topic (e.g., “Race/Ethnicity Yabba,” “Immigration Yabba,” “Deans and Administrators Yabba”), and we’ll get the Yabba going to feed your spirits.

Thus We Rise Initiatives

“If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far go together.” – African Proverb

Easton’s Nook is committed to increasing the pipeline of supportive and outstanding scholars who succeed in the academy. We can help each other to thrive. We invite you to assemble a team of colleagues who have shared interests. Support each other by creating a portfolio of papers and by sharing authorship on each paper.  Here is how it works.

We support you for supporting each other. When each paper is published the 1st author receives a 10% discount on their next write-in at Easton’s Nook.

Planning For Tenure and Promotion

For most Assistant Professors the tenure review process is often steeped in stress and mystery. For most Associate Professors seeking promotion to the rank of Full Professor the process often feels no less mysterious or stressful. However, with careful and early planning, the process of getting to and through tenure and promotion can be manageable, even enjoyable. This series is designed for post-docs, early career faculty, Assistant Professors preparing for tenure, and Associate Professors preparing for promotion to the rank of Professor.

In this 3 day workshop we will:

  • Demystify the tenure and promotion processes;
  • Craft strategic plans for each year of the tenure and promotion journey;
  • Identify common mistakes made during the journey to tenure and senior level promotion;
  • Identify important do’s and don’ts related to the tenure and promotion processes;
  • Prepare and review your statements of research, teaching, and service;
  • Craft a plan for optimizing your portfolio.

This writing camp will lead you through the process of:

  • Constructing a conceptual frame for your work
  • Writing a critical review of the literature
  • Constructing your Methods section
  • Reporting your Results
  • Constructing an effective Discussion section
